Polish middles: betting against the gap

A Polish middle is a middle turned inside out: the two legs pay a locked profit on EVERY result except one narrow gap, where you take a known, limited loss. You win small often and lose small rarely, and the ratio between the two is printed on every opportunity.

Polish middles are an OddStorm specialty: our scanner builds them from cross-market combinations most tools never check. They suit arbers who like frequent small wins and can hold discipline through the occasional gap hit.

How a Polish middle works #

Combine two overlapping lines so that their wins cover everything EXCEPT a single result band. On most outcomes both legs settle in your favor and pay like a normal surebet; when the result lands exactly in the gap, one leg loses more than the other wins.

Compare with a regular middle: there you PAY a small cost hoping the gap hits. In a Polish middle you COLLECT a small profit hoping the gap misses. Same geometry, opposite side of the trade.

The value: how many wins one loss costs #

OddStorm prints each Polish middle's VALUE: the loss divided by the win, plus one. The example is (44.38 / 23.62) + 1 = 2.88: roughly, one gap hit eats two wins. A value of 1.92 means one hit eats less than one win, so alternating win-loss still leaves profit.

Lower value = safer Polish middle. That is the inverse of regular middles (where higher value is safer), and it is the single number to filter by.

Playing them long-term #

Polish middles are a volume game with three rules:

  • Filter by value first (as low as you can find), percentage second. A fat percentage with a value of 4 is a trap for your variance.
  • Keep stakes uniform relative to bankroll so one gap hit never erases more than a few wins' worth of progress.
  • Log gap hits separately in your records. If gaps hit far more often than the value implies over dozens of plays, your gap selection (not the math) needs fixing.
