The arbitrage action plan
From zero to your first settled arb in eight steps and about two weeks. Nothing here is theory: this is the exact sequence we would follow ourselves starting today, with the waiting built in where reality puts it (verification, deposits, learning).
Most guides explain WHAT arbitrage is. This one is the checklist for DOING it. Each step names its exit condition, so you always know whether you are ready to move on.
Read What is sports arbitrage first if any term below is new; this plan assumes the concepts and gets straight to execution.
Step 1: Decide your bankroll and park it in an e-wallet #
Pick the amount you can leave locked up for weeks (EUR 1,000 to 2,000 makes the hours worthwhile; less is fine for learning). Open an e-wallet bookmakers in your market support (Skrill and Neteller are the arber standards) and put the money there. The e-wallet becomes your hub: deposits to books are instant, and rebalancing between books goes through it. Exit condition: money sits in the wallet, verified and ready.
Step 2: Open the anchor accounts #
Register at the books that will sit on one side of most of your arbs:
- Pinnacle: the sharp anchor, welcomes winners, high limits.
- A betting exchange (Betfair): lets you lay outcomes and is the backbone of Back/Lay arbing later.
- The two or three biggest soft bookmakers licensed in your country.
Step 3: Verify everything NOW, not at withdrawal time #
Upload identity documents at every bookmaker immediately, with identical personal details everywhere. Then do a small deposit AND a small withdrawal at each: you want the payment pipes proven while nothing is at stake. This step runs in the background over several days; start it early precisely because it is slow.
Step 4: Create your free OddStorm account #
Register at OddStorm (free, no card). The free view caps profits at 0.50 percent and hides names, which is exactly enough for the next step: you will see the real rhythm of arbs appearing and dying without paying anything yet.
Step 5: Paper trade 20 to 30 arbs #
For each arb you would take: write the stakes down, find both markets at both bookmakers by hand, note whether the prices were still there, then track the settlement. No money moves. You are training the eyes and hands: finding the market fast, reading periods correctly, feeling how long a price survives.
Step 6: Go live small, PreMatch first #
Activate a subscription (or use the 24-hour trial: available Monday to Thursday, ask support in advance) and place your first real arbs with these rules:
- PreMatch only for the first week: more time per decision, calmer pace.
- Stakes at half of what the bankroll allows, rounded to natural amounts (20, 50, 100).
- Only arbs between 1 and 5 percent. Skip everything above 10 percent: those are usually errors.
- Place the fast-moving leg first (sharp book or exchange), complete the second leg immediately.
Step 7: Log every arb and review weekly #
A simple sheet: date, match, market, books, stakes, arb percentage, settled result, mistakes made. The log is your profit calculator (percentage x turnover, measured instead of guessed) and your early-warning system: patterns of near-misses show up in writing long before they show up in the balance.
Step 8: Scale deliberately #
After two or three clean weeks: raise stakes toward the calculator's numbers, add InPlay sessions (they pay best and demand the most), open the next bookmakers where arbs keep escaping you, and rebalance accounts weekly through the e-wallet.
That is the whole plan #
Two weeks, eight steps, no theory left on the table. Everything deeper (middles, Polish middles, Back/Lay, account longevity) has its own guide in this section, and the scanner is waiting whenever you are.
